Colleen’s Weight Loss Success Story: Motivation to Get Back to Her High School Weight
My Healthy Woman journey began over two years ago. Just like every major milestone in one’s life you remember exactly how you arrived there. My husband was invited to a special event to honor his role in an accomplishment for him and his team. The event was black tie and evening gown. I found this amazing dress and treated myself to a hair and makeup makeover, it seemed like a “fairytale.” That was until I saw the pictures that I took and had others take of me. When I developed the film and saw myself, I was shocked. I couldn’t believe I could feel so cheated of a beautiful night in which the pictures painted a different picture. What I saw in those pictures was a woman, even though she was smiling and happy to be standing with her husband, you could see the sadness in her eyes.
At that point in my life at the age of 42 years old I was at my heaviest weight. Being only 5’5”, I weighed 197 pounds and was a size 20. I remembered driving by Healthy Woman every day on my way to work. But when I returned to “reality” I decided that it was time for me to do something about my life. I decided to stop by on my way home from work that very day. When I walked through the doors I immediately felt welcome. I saw the before and after pictures of women on the wall and decided, right then, I wanted to be one of those women.
When it was explained to me that I would be primarily eating grocery store foods I was relieved. I started the program the next day. I then started to lose weight; I think 7 pounds that first week. And following the program was, at moments, difficult, or so I thought, until my next weigh-in. Each time when I weighed in, the lifestyle coach and I went through my journal. Seeing where I was doing well and of course needed improvement (which was just weighing and understanding portion size, as well as making sure to drink my water). And the weight just kept coming off. And the most amazing feeling is when everyone started to noticing.
The weirdest comment I ever received from a co-worker was “if you keep losing weight your wrists are going to disappear.” At the time I thought how strange of a comment, but, soon realized at least for me that it was very flattering. I was conscientious of all the extra pounds around all parts of my body, even my wrists. The comment only made me realize that the fat was, indeed, melting off.
It’s been over a year now and I’ve kept the weight off. I went from 197lbs down to 135 lbs., size 6/8 and feel the healthiest, ever. I haven’t been this weight since in entered puberty at the age of 14. I know without the lifestyle coaches, my personal determination and Healthy Woman, I couldn’t have done all by myself.

How many times have you heard someone say, “I’m trying to lose weight?” How many times have those same individuals quit almost before they even started? The time and effort required to succeed can test anyone’s patience and endurance.
How can someone achieve success and satisfaction rather than suffer failure and frustration? Based on my own weight loss experience, Healthy Woman provides the answer. I started my weight loss journey in August of last year with an experiment: I decided I would systematically “try out” several different personal training programs. After sample sessions with four trainers, I chose what was best for me. I worked very hard for four months and managed to lose 16 pounds.
Then I hit the proverbial plateau and stayed there almost four months. The physical training was going well, but I needed help with my nutrition. I saw an advertisement for Healthy Woman and signed up. Could post-menopausal and pre-menopausal women lose equal amounts of weight in two months? We could not, but it did not matter because I lost 16 pounds!
How could I lose the same amount of weight in much less time? Healthy Woman gave me a nutrition plan that was very easy to follow. I did not have to count calories or points as with Weight Watchers. All I did was eat regular food, and I was never hungry!
Yes, I devoted a lot of time and effort to exercise and nutrition. The reward was to see the scale register a loss every other day. I have discovered that effort does indeed bring results, and I feel satisfied. I have more pounds to lose, but Healthy Woman will help me succeed.

I have struggled with my weight since adolescence, but things really got out of control during my second pregnancy. I gained 60 lbs. and never took it off after my son was born almost eleven years ago. Any time I lost a few pounds, I’d gain it right back again, plus more. I was so discouraged. It felt like I had tried everything feasible, but only kept getting bigger and bigger. By the time I saw the Healthy woman center while out shopping, I was so jaded that I almost passed up the chance to find out about the program. It was the Healthy woman guarantee that made me decide to give losing my weight “one last try.”
Well, the program delivered more than it promised! I lost 75 lbs. in seven months, and I’ve kept the weight off for almost eight months now. It was so much fun dropping six pant sizes in seven months that I didn’t miss my old unhealthy eating habits at all, and the exercise was fun, and produced noticeable results quickly! Last summer, I wore sleeveless tops and shorts for the first time in ten years. I swam with my kids and even went jogging a few times! My suggestion to new members…Determine to aim for a perfect start to your program, get in your three visits and at least three exercise sessions each week. Donna’s Weight Loss Success Story: Inspiration for a Better, Longer Life
This is what happened when fear started to control my life. There I was a 50-year-old woman, whose doctor just told me that I needed to do something about my ability to absorb calcium. I would soon become one of those hunched over old ladies if I didn’t turn my life around. I was too young to be this old lady, and yet I did not have a clue how or where to begin this process of change. It happened in a shopping mall parking lot, as I sadly sat questioning my life; I focused on a sign that said “Healthy Inspirations”. I told myself that I guess I could get inspired, scary as that seemed. So in I went to meet my future. I sat down and listened while the counselor told me how I could get into an exercise program that would help me rebuild my body fitness, retrieve my daily energy as it once had been, and lose the weight in an amazingly fast program. What’s more it was not one of those quick fixes that 6 months later you ask what went wrong. I needed something for the rest of my life! Well that was March 2005, and to date I have lost 60+ pounds, over 38 inches, can easily walk miles, find each day a joy, and have my doctor thrilled with my success.
I suppose the really best part of the program is that my counselors have all become my coaches and friends. They have walked me through the holidays with tips and ways for me to reach the goal. They hosted special workshops that massaged me, updated my make-up, helped me cook better tasting meals with more variety, and kept my exercise program from ever becoming boring. Just about the time I thought this is too hard to continue, one of the counselors would zip out a tape measure and start reminding me of the bottom line or even worse show me just exactly how I looked on the day I walked through their door. They never gave up on me.
These counselors promised me many things and have lived up to every promise. They guided my meal plans, my exercise program, supported my emotional ups and downs, and best of all helped me to laugh through many of my daily woes. It doesn’t get any better and they helped me to become the best me.
Barb’s Weight Loss Success Story: She Lost 90-pounds and Saved Her Health
I began the journey with Healthy Woman in terrible shape. I had both knee joints replaced due to obesity and was on cholesterol meds and was prescribed my second blood pressure med. I knew if I did not do something very soon I would not live to enjoy retirement! A friend and co-worker had lost a lot on the Healthy Woman Program so I figured I might as well try it as I’d tried everything else!
To my great amazement the program worked! I found the eating plan very doable and had lots of foods I liked. The healthy snacks were perfect for staving off hunger during the day. The exercise circuit was just the ticket for someone reintroducing exercise into my life. Of course the most helpful supportive part was the total of 3 visits per week with one of the Lifestyle Coaches. Those visits just set the tone of the day!
I still cannot believe the results. I lost 90 pounds on the plan, so of course had to buy an entire new wardrobe! But even better, my cholesterol level is in the normal range and I’m off both blood pressure meds with blood pressure consistently on the lower side of normal. Much to my surprise, I have come to enjoy exercise – I do something everyday, either at Healthy Woman or working with my personal trainer. I’m even exploring new classes like yoga and Tai Chi. Kelly’s Weight Loss Success Story: How She Turned Her Life Around
The summer of ‘08 proved to be a very stressful year for me. The first thing was getting our kitchen completely over-hauled. There were a lot of decisions to be made all while eating chips and microwave dinners in the basement. Then in September my youngest went off to Kindergarten and I experienced “Empty Nest Syndrome”. Months went by and I got chubbier and chubbier. My life as I knew it was over. Before I got married I was a flight attendant and a size 6. Now I was a chubby Mom with a great kitchen and very sad.
Then the Holidays came which meant more food and more weight gain. On February 2nd I turned 46. I remember that day well. I just sat around and thought, “I could either go up to 200 pounds or go down to my normal weight.” I chose to go down. On February 3rd I made the call that saved my life. No, I wasn’t dying but I was dying inside.
I went into Healthy Woman that very day. I remember calling first thing in the morning and she got me in an hour later. The program sounded easy. I liked the idea of healthy eating, exercise and coaching all under one roof. As I went through the program each month actually got easier. I felt great and wanted to feel even better. I was hooked on health!
I made my goals as scheduled each month and hit my 100% as scheduled too. No struggles, no obstacles, nothing was going to stand in my way. Each time I walked into the center I felt proud. I was proud of myself and proud of Healthy Woman! They had done everything right. I wanted to shout it to from the rooftops!
So now I’m almost done with Balance and am training to be a Lifestyle Coach. I am very excited for this opportunity. Not only do I feel better but I can help others feel better too. I strongly support the program and continue to follow everything they have taught me. I no longer crave foods. I no longer emotionally eat. I am strong and healthy. Recently at a picnic my sister-in-law asked me if I feel deprived. And to that I responded, “Deprived? No, not at all.” Before I was deprived of a healthy body, cute clothes and attention, just to name a few. I can handle not eating a cookie!”
Sharon’s Weight Loss Success Story: How Her Favorite Jeans Got Out of the Closet
I knew I was overweight and starting to look and feel like the “Grandma” I now am. The last time I weighed this much was when I was days away from delivering my son. I wanted to keep up with my active outdoor lifestyle, but my energy was being drained by carrying around the extra weight. Occasionally, I’d try to lose weight by cutting back on desserts and eating less, but I didn’t know how to do it on my own. Then I ran into a friend who had lost 50 pounds and told me how Healthy Woman had helped her do it.
I became a member at Healthy Woman the same week, and started my program in January with my goal to lose weight and feel better by the time my summer horseback riding seasons began. I wanted to fit back into my favorite dress jeans that were hanging in the back of the closet. By the end of March I had lost 22 pounds and over 19 inches. Of course, I had to go shopping for new clothes because I had dropped 3 clothing sizes! The jeans fit! The compliments I was getting were great, but the renewed energy and self-esteem I regained were the best!
The support of the ladies working at the center is so important for motivating me to stick with the program. Their personal experiences of having “been there” are a great example, and everyone is really excited for you when you’re making progress toward your goal. The exercise circuit has strengthened my back and helps me lose the weight uniformly. I’m eating healthier, and my doctor is impressed with my weight loss and improved blood pressure.
Just keep showing up for your daily visits and exercising. Make some new friends with women striving for the same goal as you are. If you just stay with your program you will get there too! Healthy Woman will be there for you and help you believe in yourself. You can do it!
